He was short, medium build, had blue eyes, and brown hair. He was a farmer and stock raiser in Luling, Caldwell County, Texas. He enlisted in the SPECIAL RANGER FORCE from February 7, 1917, through December 1917. He had been a Caldwell County deputy sheriff and Sheriff W.M. Ellison requested that he be commissioned.
