Promising Young Boy is Drowned in Dean Lake
A sad accident occurred last Sunday morning at 8 o'clock when Aaron Dixon was drowned in Dean Lake. He and the hired man were fishing and in some way the boat was tipped over and the boy lost his life.
Aaron Furtney Dixon was born on the farm of his father, Robert Dixon, in Frankfort Township June 8, 1903. He died June 10 at the age of 14 years and two days. His father died June 1, 1910 as the result of injuries sustained in a run-away in Minneapolis. Mrs. Dixon was later married to her first husband's brother, Thomas Dixon, of Rockford where the family has lived ever since and where Aaron died. He was enrolled as a student in the first year of the High School of Buffalo.
The funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon. A brief service was held at the home and later at the Presbyterian Church of Rockford, Rev. Sellie officiating . It was one of the largest funerals ever held at that church, a great many being unable to gain admittance. Besides the friends from Rockford, Delano and Buffalo, there were people from Minneapolis, Austin, Foley and other places. The flowers sent by friends and relatives showed that the boy was a favorite with many people, there being pieces from the schools, teachers and the Dickinson Club and many others. Aaron was loved by everybody and will be missed by all who knew him. The family has the sympathy of the entire community.
SUNDAY, Rockford friends were shocked to hear of the drowning of Aaron Furtney Dixon, fourteen year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Dixon of Dean Lake. The accident occurred early in the morning when he and his companion were out on the lake fishing. In some way the boat capsized, and as neither could swim the terrible accident resulted. His companion nearly met the same fate. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Sellie officiating. The interment was at Elmwood. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful. The funeral service was attended by a large crowd of neighbors and friends.
