Birth: Oct. 20, 1844
Coffee County
Tennessee, USA
Death: Feb. 23, 1928
Kaufman County
Texas, USA

In the death of Louis A. Farmer, one of the oldest and best known and most highly respected citizens of the Forney section was removed from the walks of men.

Mr. Farmer was born in Coffee county, Tenn., Oct. 20, 1844, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.H. Clary, February 23, 1928.

In 1865 he was united in marriage to Miss Edna Griffin of Lebanon, Tenn., his companion having passed to her reward July 25, 1890. To this union were born twelve children, six boys and six girls. Five girls and four boys yet survive. Those now living are: Mrs. J.H. Clary, Forney; Mrs. S.D. Moore, Forney; Mrs. C.M. Oshields, Fort Worth; Mrs. Ben Ford, Houston; Mrs. P. Couture, Mils City, Mon., and A.J., O.P., W.E., and E.A. Farmer, all of Forney.

Having never married after the loss of his companion, he made his home with Mrs. J.H. Clary, his second oldest daughter, who helped him to rear the family, giving up all her girlhood pleasures to help him care for and rear the younger children. For 44 years he was a devoted and faithful member of the Christian church, and lived faithful and true to the end. In life he was a devoted father, a true husband, and a friend to man. He lived a long and useful life, and at a ripe old age he went away, but not before he had seen all his living children grow to manhood and womanhood and all doing well, with splendid families of their own, all honored and respected by a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were conducted at the home of Mrs. Clary Friday, Feb. 24th, by Rev. C.E. Chambers, pastor of the Christian church of Forney, assisted by other ministers. Beautiful words of comfort were spoken by Bro. Chambers upon this life and character of Mr. Farmer, that were comforting to the dear relatives, especially his devoted children. Flowers, beautiful and fragrant, were piled high about the casket, and later hid the new made grave from view in Hillcrest cemetery.

To his bereaved children the Messenger offers its sympathy along with their hundreds of other friends.
