Union Civil War veteran and GAR member. He served in Company C, 6th Tennessee Volunteer Infantry. Although Tennessee was a Confederate state, many citizens remained loyal to the Union including Sen. Andrew Johnson who became Abraham Lincoln's Vice-President and then the 17th President of the United States upon Lincoln's death.
This grave was unmarked for 101 years until a headstone was placed by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in 2008.
