Article from the January 2008 issue of the Trumpet,
Smith County Genealogical Society Newsletter:
On December 22, 2007, Society Charter Member,
Walter BURNS passed away at the age of 67. Those that knew Walter know that he also was a devout member of First Baptist Church of Raleigh, and that he enjoyed working on the many family lines in his family genealogy and was always quick and willing to share information.
Walter had been in declining health for the last several years, but while he was able, he was always willing to pitch in and work on the many Society projects that he could help with.
He would rarely miss a regular monthly meeting if he was able to be there. Walter served as the Society Membership Chairman for a couple of years. Just last year, he was made an honorary lifetime member of the Society for his work and contributions. He was buried at North Raleigh Cemetery in Raleigh. He will be missed.
