Hold last rites for Melvin Bond in Bogalusa
Funeral services for Melvin E. Bond, 79, a former resident of Good Hope community, were held in Bogalusa, La. Sunday at 2:30 p.m. burial was in Coaltown Cemetery near Purvis.
Mr. Bond had been in poor health for the past few years. He died at Rest Haven Home in Bogalusa Friday night at 9:15 p.m. He had resided in Bogalusa for nearly eight years.
He was a native of Mississippi and had been reared in Lamar County. He received his formal education in Purvis. Mr. Bond worked as a foreman for the Great Southern Lumber company for 47 years. He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were his grandsons. Brown's Funeral Home of Bogalusa was in charge of arrangements.
Suvivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Ann Brezeale Bond of Bogalusa; three sons, M. E., Jr., Bill, and Cabe of Bogalusa; three brothers, Oscar and Shep of Purvis and Wilmer of Gulfport; five sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Williamson of Hattiesburg; Mrs. Anna Hill of Gulfport; Mrs. P. H. Windham of Alexander City, Ala.; Mrs. S. I. Rund of Anniston, Ala.; and Mrs. Lois Wentzen of Tama, Iowa; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
