Bart R. Chiasson, 67, of Lake Charles passed away at 12:36 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, in a Shreveport hospital.
Mr. Chiasson was born in Jennings on Oct. 20, 1941, to Horace and Ruby Chiasson.
After graduating from LaGrange High School, Mr. Chiasson enlisted in the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. Upon leaving the Navy, he followed his father's footsteps in becoming an electrician, eventually becoming an electrical contractor. Mr. Chiasson was a very well known and respected businessperson who co-owned Chiasson Electric with his brother for the past 30 years.
He enjoyed many activities in his spare time, the greatest of these was spending time with his grandkids. When not enjoying that activity, he could usually be found offshore with a fishing rod in his hand or hunting somewhere in the woods. Mr. Chiasson was an active member of Krewe de la Famille, and in 1999, he and his wife, Carole, were king and queen of the krewe. He was a member of South City Church of Christ, the Lake Charles Buccaneers, and the Southwest La. fishing club.
Mr. Chiasson is survived by his two loving daughters, Kimberly Landreneau and husband Scott of Lake Charles and Leah Owen and husband Chris of Moss Bluff. Bart was a devoted "Papa" to his grandchildren, Ryan and Brooke Landreneau, Lauren and Blake LeBlanc, and Caden and Chase Owen. Bart is survived by two brothers, Robert "Bob" Chiasson and wife Annette and Jack Chiasson and wife Barbara, all of Lake Charles; two sisters, Pam Chiasson of Lafayette, and Cheryl Chiasson of Pineville. He is also survived by his fiancee, Donna Darnsteadt of Lake Charles. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 37 years, Carole Castleberry Chiasson, and his parents, Horace and Ruby (Istre) Chiasson.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, in Johnson Funeral Home. The Rev. Robby Bacon and Brother John C. Manning will officiate. Interment will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m.-9 p.m., today, Jan. 9, and from 9 a.m. until time of services, Saturday, in the funeral home.
