According to the 1920 Federal Census, George owned a restaurant in Goldthwaite and was married to Gurtha Levell Phillips. They had a son, James Charles Phillips who was just 1 year old.
Sometime before 1930, George and his family moved from Goldthwaite to Austin, Texas, where he was the manager of a clothing store. By 1940, however, his career changed to that of a printing salesman at a commercial printing company. His son, now 21, was a soda dispenser at a drugstore...a pretty popular job in 1940.
He was the manager of Hub Clothiers in Dallas when he passed away in 1944.
