She was born on February 5, 1917, in Fruitvale, TN, and moved to Washington, D.C., in 1941 beginning a 32-year career on Capitol Hill working for Senator Kenneth Douglas McKellar (D-TN), other congressmen, and in the Office of the Doorkeeper, William M. "Fish Bait" Miller.
Mrs. Basinger lived in Jackson, TN, after retiring and moved to Maui, Hawaii, in 1999.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 27, 2014, in Belleview Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Rex H. (Alexa Betts) Basinger, Jr. of Wailuku, HI; her brother, Cortez Raines of Minneapolis, MN; and her sister, Rosemary Raines of Chattanooga, TN.
Mrs. Basinger was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Belle Marcom Raines; two brothers, James Clifton Raines and William Robert Raines; and a sister, Beryl Raines Nelson.
