Cleo Eleanor Cunningham, 93, of Saltsburg, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2015, in her home.

Born Oct. 5, 1921, in Plum Creek Township, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Anna “Annie” (Harmon) Aikins.

Cleo Lived in Saltsburg most of her adult life, and she was a graduate of Avonmore High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Sieno Lumber and C&C Coal Company, where she met her husband. Cleo also served as the Saltsburg Borough tax collector. She was a member of the Sons of Zebedee Lutheran Church in Saltsburg and a member and former president of Saltsburg American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Cleo was an avid reader, and she loved traveling with her husband, Daniel, going on many cruises and visiting several states, including Alaska and Colorado.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Daniel Cunningham, of Saltsburg; son Thomas W. (Gloria) Almes, of Odenton, Md.; grandsons Troy (Valerie) Almes and Gary (Marci) Almes, both of York; granddaughters Beth Kobak and Katie (fiance, Eddie) Almes, both of Indiana; 9 great-grandchildren; brother Leland (Mary Lou) Aikins, of Indiana; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

In addition to her parents, Cleo was preceded in death by her son Kenneth Paul Almes; brothers Kenneth, Laird, Robert Dean and Charles Aikins; and one sister, Lois Hall.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Curran Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 701 Salt St., Saltsburg. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with Pastor John Ludwig officiating. Interment will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg.

Memorial contributions may be made in Cleo’s memory to the St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
