Gooitske Jans, daughter of Jan Douwes (de Vries) and Froukjen Harmens, wasn't baptized (soon after her birth) because her parents were mennonites (Doopsgezind), so there was no birth document available when she wanted to marry in 1817. According to a so-called Akte van Bekendheid (of Acquaintance), confirmed on 20 July 1817 by a judge in Buitenpost, after having heart six witnesses, a.o. her parents, two of her brothers and her future mother-in-law, she was born on 27 July 1790 in Surhuisterveen, a country village in the municipality Achtkarspelen, in the northeastern part of the Dutch northern province Friesland.
Day-laborer Gooitske Jans de Vries, residing in her birthplace Surhuisterveen, daughter of Jan Douwes de Vries and Frouktjen Harmens, married on 13 August 1817 in Buitenpost, the seat of municipality Achtkarspelen, at the age of 27 years to the 26 3/4 years aged day-laborer Ritske Rapkes Tuinstra, who was also residing in Surhuisterveen.
Ritske and Gooitske had the following children: 1 Vroukjen Ritskes Tuinstra, b. 25 September 1817 Surhuisterveen, Friesland; 2 Rapke Ritskes Tuinstra, b. 11 November 1819 Achtkarspelen, Friesland. No deathakte of him available in the Netherlands. Was his death not declared?; 3 Jan Ritskes Tuinstra, b. 2 May 1822 Surhuizum, d. 25 July 1856 Surhuizum, Friesland.
Goitske Jans de Vries, laborer, died on 18 August 1837 in Surhuisterveen at the age of 47 years.
Her widower Ritske Rapkes Tuinstra remarried in 1839 to the 19 years younger Riemkjen Loonstra.
