1 JAMES CHAMPION, the ancestor of the New Hampshire Champions, when still a boy, ran away from his home in England, where he was treated unkindly by his step-mother, and went on a fishing voyage to Labrador. A few years later he came to Boston, Massachusetts, but in a short time became an inhabitant of Hampton, New Hampshire. Not liking it there, he soon removed to Lebanon, Maine, and there married POLLY RANKIN, by whom he had three children. After her death he removed to Parsonfield, Maine, where he married SALLY TOWLE. He then came to Effingham, New Hampshire, and settled on a farm in that part of town which was afterwards known as the "Champion Neighborhood". Here he passed the remainder of his life.....

x. LEVI, b. _____1805; was a mason by trade, and left Effingham intending to settle in Machias, Me., but was never heard of again. He was unmarried.
