Legendary pianist, conductor and composer. Born Ramòn Emilio Valdes Amaro, he is considered one of the leading talents in the golden age of Cuban music. Valdes began his career as a pianist in the night clubs at Havana and from 1948 was the musical director of the Tropicana Club. Very active in the 1950s, he arranged many recordings, composed Mambo and organized Afro-Cuban jazz jam sessions. In 1963 after having briefly lived and worked in Mexico and United States, he moved to Sweden where was instrumental in spreading the techniques of Cuban music and latin jazz. His works known all over the world include songs like "Mambo Caliente, Mambo Riff", "Cuban Dance Party", "Todo Ritmo", "Mucho Sabor", "We Could Make Such Beautiful Music Together", "Bebo Rides Again" and "Chico & Rita". According to the critics he made ​​a significant contribution to the fusion of flamenco and jazz with memorable tracks such as "El arte del sabor", "Lagrimas Negras" and "Bebo de Cuba" that from 2002 to 2006 earned him 5 Grammy Awards. He died because of Alzheimer's desease.
