Rachel Krogstad, age 99, of Glenwood, MN, died Saturday, February 27, 2010, at Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood, MN. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 6th, at All Saint's Chapel in Glenwood Retirement Village, with Rev. Michael Hanson officiating. The organist will be Barbara Ask and the soloist will be Curt Bredeson. Interment will be at Nidaros Cemetery in Hammer, SD.

Rachel Krogstad, age 99, of Glenwood, died Saturday, February 27, 2010, at Glenwood Retirement Village. She was born on April 5, 1910, in Hammer, South Dakota, where her parents, Gunder and Christie (Oas) Hammer, homesteaded. She was the fifth of seven children and was baptized and confirmed in Norwegian at Nidaros Church in Hammer. She attended country schools and graduated from Sisseton High School in 1928.

Rachel married Robert Krogstad in 1932, and they owned dry-cleaning establishments in Webster, SD; Moose Lake and Walker, MN; and a Laundromat in Moose Lake. Together they owned and operated Stony Point Resort on Leech Lake and developed Sun Bay Trailer park near Walker. They retired in 1969, spending time in Mesa, AZ, and Walker before moving to Starbuck in 1984. In 1999, they moved to Ridgewood Villa in Glenwood, and since November, 2008, Rachel has resided in Glenwood Retirement Village.

For many years Rachel was an active member of Eastern Star and Rebekah. While in Starbuck, she was a member of Fron Lutheran Church. During her retirement years she was active in the Starbuck Senior Citizens and enjoyed her friends there very much. She volunteered a number of years at Minnewaksa Lutheran Home. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, fishing, reading, and crocheting. She as a dedicated mother and grandmother and enjoyed her family. She was there to help whenever she was needed.

Rachel is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Dan) Schliesman of Glenwood and Janice Weaver of Golden, CO; nine grandchildren, Kathy (David) Estwick of Glenwood; Carrie Bloms of Brair, WA; Mary Parkwell of Edmonds, WA; Dan (Patty) Schliesman of Apple Valley, MN; Lisa Schliesman of Maplewood, MN; David Weaver of Lakewood, CO; Marc (Vicky) Krogstad of Chamberlain, SD; Karen (Brian) Griffith of Rapid City, SD; and Robbie Krogstad of Kasilov, AK; 13 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Krogstad; and her son, Robert Krogstad, Jr.

Rachel dearly loved her family and was greatly loved in return.
