Mrs. J. Kathryn (Peiffer) O'Donnell, 82, of 221 Meadow Lane, Chambersburg, PA, died at 4:28 P.M. Monday, August 20, 2007 in the home of her daughter, Susan Eckis in Burke, Virginia. She became critically ill five weeks ago.

She was born on October 9, 1924 in Waynesboro, PA; she was the daughter of the late Aaron Gilbert and Ruth Minerva (Sprankle) Peiffer. She lived her early life in Waynesboro.

Mrs. O'Donnell graduated from Waynesboro High School with the class of 1942.


She and her late husband, Mr. Richard J. O'Donnell, were married on September 8, 1942 in Frederick, MD. They lived in various states while Mr. O'Donnell was employed. They moved to the present residence in 1981. Mr. O'Donnell died January 3, 2001. Mrs. O'Donnell moved with her daughter when she became ill.

In her early life, she worked at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg.

She was very much devoted to her family, and was a great baker and cook.

She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn M. "Cathy" Cooper, Weirton, WV, Susan K. Eckis of Burke, VA, three grandchildren, two great-grandsons, five sisters, Lenora R. Shatzer of Hagerstown, MD, Mary Jane Hoffman and Margaret "Peggy" Wagaman both of Waynesboro, Shirley M. Spealman of Green Village, PA, Trudy J. Moore of Springfield, VA, four brothers, Kenneth L. Peiffer and Gerald E. Peiffer both of Waynesboro, Lowell E. Peiffer of Fayetteville, PA and Frederick D. Peiffer of Mercersburg, PA and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra D. Huber, two brothers, Charles A. Peiffer and Arthur G. Peiffer, three half-sisters, Ruth V. Peiffer, Helen L. Minnich and Evelyn Shadle, three half-brothers, J. Norman Peiffer, Lester Peiffer and Harold "Stump" Peiffer.

Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 23, 2007 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad Street, Waynesboro with Rev. Richard A. Seaks officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
