MEMORIES OF MY BELOVED LITTLE SISTER-DONNA MAE
My beloved sister was the third daughter,of five children, born to the marital union of the late Richard T. McKinney and Emelda R. Doyle. She was also the second sister with the distinction of having her first name start with the letter 'D'. Our mother had a sense of humor!
The memories that I have of my sister are of her quiet, gentle manner, her creativity and her compassion. However, she could put her foot down when she needed to get her point heard! I remember an incident when she had told our younger brother to do something, and he ignored her, coupled with some 'back talk.' My middle sister, Dee, attempted to intervene, but Donna responded, "Dee, I have this!" (shooing her away with her arm). He quickly understood the pending consequences of his actions, and quickly pulled himself together. We all had a good laugh over that one!
Donna also possessed an individualized sense of fashion. Donna always wore makeup, not because she had to, but because she loved the creativity of the process. She was so meticulous. She would color coordinate her nail color to her outfits. An issue that sometimes required daily changes of nail color!
In her quiet times, Donna loved word puzzles, wood-craftwork, reading her bible, and watching 'the soaps,' with her beloved Aunt Mattie.
Although tragically short, my sister's life was full of wonderful friendships and loving family gatherings. Donna would emanate qualities of grace, beauty, humor and joy to the people around her.
Donna you are thought of every, single, day-Deborah ----------------- Do not stand at my grave and weep... I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow, I am the diamond glints on snow I am the sunlight on ripened grain, I am the gently autumn rain When you awake in the morning's hush.
I am the swift up flinging rush Of quiet birds in circling flight. I am the soft star-shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry... I am not there. I did not die.
