John Keller was born in Hesse-Darmstadt, Germany, June 22, 1837. When a lad of eighteen years (1855) he came to the United States and settled in New York City.
He married Miss Anna Wilhelmina "Minnie" Overkamp about 1860. To this union six children were born: John Jr. in 1861, Anton in 1863, William in 1865, and Louis in 1867, all of whom were born in or near the vicinity of Williamsburg, New York.
During the year 1869, John and family moved to Connersville, Indiana where Frederick in 1870 and Charles in 1871 were born.
Anton and Frederick died in childhood. William and Charles lived in Richmond, Indiana and John Jr. and Louis lived in this city.
After the death of "Minnie", John married Miss Anna "Annie" Maria Wegerle, a prominent lady of the city in 1876. To this union were born four children: Edwin in 1877, Estella in 1883, Mrs. Irene Sommer in 1886 and Mayme in 1888.
For many years Mr. Keller was very prominent in manufacturing circles. He was the organizer and chief stockholder of the Keller Lounge factory, now defunct. In later years Mr. Keller conducted an upholstering and repair shop on Western avenue. He was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church, having his membership with the German church of that denomination. He was a veteran of the Civil War.
