Hattie Belle Ashburn, former Gibbon resident, died July 1, 1964 at a Pasadena California hospital. Born October 24, 1874 near New Market, Ohio she was the daughter of Orlando and Julia Wilcoxin McConnaughey. The family came to Gibbon, Nebraska in 1882, attended school and college and Fremont Normal School. She was a member of the Baptist Church when it was established, a charter member of the Women's Club, charter member of the Eastern Star and the 1st Worthy Matron of Gibbon Star Chapter.
She married Joseph Nelson Ashburn June 28, 1898; 4 children were born to this union:
Arthur Ashburn; Hawthorne, California
Bernice Nims; Glendale, California
Constance Thompson; LaCanada, California
Edith Roberts; Newport Beach, California
She and her husband moved to California in 1941 where he preceded her in death January 3, 1947. In addition, 4 grandchildren and 2 sisters survive.
