In 1914 his wife Florence came under suspicion of murdering one of his patients, Mrs. Louise Bailey, with a gun shot through a window in his office. The first trial in Oct. 1914, ended with a hung jury. She was acqitted on May 8, 1915 after a second trial. She was supported by the entire community, and the evidence did not support a conviction. Edwin had been removed from his post as Health Officer 4 years earlier on negligence charges. In Jan 1929 his medical license was suspended for performing an illegal operation (abortion) on a woman who later died. He had not practiced medicine for 10 years prior to his death. His name appeared in the paper for having been burgled, and for being bilked out of $14,000, in a scam by several men who disappeared. He was a graduate of Long Island College Hospital, and was one of the organizers of the South Shore Hospital. He died at the home of his daughter Elizabeh with whom he had been living for several years. His wife survived him also.
