Mrs. E. B. Cole died at her home on Oakwood Avenue last Saturday night after an illness of two years with tumor of the brain. Last year she was carried to a Charlotte hospital, but it was found that she could not be operated on. She finally lost her eyesight and was confined to her bed for over a year. Mrs. Cole developed pneumonia some two weeks ago which was the direct cause of her death.
The funeral was held at the home on Sunday afternoon at 4 O'clock and was conducted by her pastor, Dr. R. C. Gilmore, prayer was offered by Mr. Williamson. At the conclusion of the services at the home the remains were carried to Shallow Well cemetery for interment. The following were pall bearers: K. E. Seymour, Lee G. McIver, N. A. Dickens, R. B. Wicker, Fred Ray and Matthew Wicker. The grave was covered by a collection of beautiful floral offerings.
Before her marriage, Mrs. Cole was Miss. Bertie Wicker, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. J. D. Wicker, who died three years ago. She was born in Chatham county, July 27 1881, passing away at the age of 46 years. She was married to Mr. Cole at about the age of 18. To this union were born 11 children, all of whom with their father, survive. They are Mrs. J. C. Vuncannon, of Greensboro; Mrs. Frank Rhodes, of Goldsboro; Mrs. Lynn P. Harrington, Fayetteville; Duncan Cole, of Florence, S.C.; H. O. Cole, of Sanford; six children unmarried at home; Virginia, Homer, Charlie, Harry, Sarah and Dorothy Cole. Mrs. Cole is also survived by the following brothers and sisters: Dr. W. C. Wicker of Elon College; R. B. Wicker, of Orangeburg, S.C.; E. P. Wicker of Sanford; Mrs. N. A. Dowdy, of Durham; Mrs. G. H. Timberlake, of Wake Forest; Mrs. R. W. Nelson, of Troy; Mrs. S. M. Watson and Mrs. J. D. Hill, of Sanford, also her aged father, Rev. J. D. Wicker.
The following out-of-town relatives and friends attended the funeral: Mr & Mrs. J. C. Vuncannon, of Greensboro; Mr. Carlton and Miss Vallie Dowdy, and Mr. & Mrs. Alred, Mrs. Billingham, of Durham; Miss Blanche McKinnon, Messrs. George and Daniel Cole, of Biscoe; Mr. & Mrs. Lynn Harrington, of Fayetteville; Mrs. Frank Rhodes, of Goldsboro.
