Officer Terry W. Autrey, age 28, ID #11929, was the 167th California Highway Patrol officer killed in the line-of-duty.

On September 30, 1987, Officer Autrey was struck and killed by a car while investigating a traffic accident on the Long Beach Freeway, in the city of Bell.

Officer Autrey and his partner had completed their initial investigation and were returning to their patrol car, which was parked in the center divider. Suddenly, their patrol car was sideswiped and Officer Autrey was killed instantly.

Officer Autrey had just reported to his first assignment, the East Los Angeles Area office, on September 2 after graduating from the CHP Academy only one month earlier.

Survivors include his wife who was expecting their third child, two sons, parents; grandmother, and several aunts and uncles.

A funeral was held at the Dayspring Church, 7040 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento CA on Monday, October 5, 1987.
