Even though the Battle of Chancellorsville was considered a victory for the Confederacy because of General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson's surprise "flank attack" against the Union forces under the command of Joseph Hooker, it was also the battle that the Confederate General Jackson was mortally wounded, accidentally by his own men, on May 2, 1863, and died 8 days later on May 10, 1863.
