Melvin Joseph Asay of Clarksville, Tenn., died in Nashville after a very short illness on June 3, 2014. He was 64.
He was born in Lovell on Sept. 20, 1949. Melvin grew up in Byron and graduated from Byron High School.
Melvin loved his family and friends very much and was very loved by them all. Affectionately known to many of his friends and grandchildren as "cowboy" or "the old cowboy," Melvin will be missed by all.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, H. Clifton and Florence Richeson Asay, brother David, sister Julie Asay Collings and granddaughter Kylie Grace.
Melvin is survived by his children: Cory, Amy Asay Davis (Terrence), Dusty (Tanaya) and Hilary Asay LaFord. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren: Austin Alford, Tyler Asay, Sierra Salinas, Landon Asay, Rian Beckley, Connor Asay, Jeffrey LaFord, Jazmyn Keller, Caelan Asay, Dakoda LaFord and Charles Asay.
Melvin is also survived by brothers and sisters: Kathleen Asay Bartlett (Henry), Stephen (Christy), Elna Asay Shoji, Adell Asay Woolf, Susan Asay Mathis (Harvey), Donald (Marilyn) and Thomas.
Services will be held Saturday, June 21, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Byron at 1 p.m.
