Death: 1872

In the 1870 Census (search Bakefort) his birthplace is listed as New York, but soon after his birth his family moved to southern Michigan. In the 1850 Census all of the Bickford brothers are listed as carpenters in Calhoun Co., MI.

George, the youngest, then moved alone to Vernon, Jennings Co., Indiana where he married Marietta Branham. His first child, Alice Marietta Bickford, was born in 1860 in Indiana. Margaret "Maggie" Lorena Bickford was born in 1867 in Odin, Marion Co., IL.

George Washington Bickford died at age 39 and was originally buried in Baden Cemetery in St. Louis, MO, but those graves were later moved 2-3 miles north to the New Bethlehem Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. Records indicate a Bickford, but no first name was given.

The girls were separated after their father's death. George's new wife of three years, Catherine "Kate" Malone Bickford, then married Malcolm Blynn/Blinn and kept the younger Maggie.

Alice was "adopted" by Col. Charles Wedelstedt and his wife Sarah E. (Beck) Wedelstedt who were traveling and moving from Memphis, Tennessee possibly via St. Louis, Missouri to Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Charles was born in Germany. His wife Sarah was born in Tennessee. They eventually settled in Madison, WI where Charles worked as a bookkeepper for the state Department of Treasury. Charles & Sarah are buried in Ramble Creek Cemetery, Benton Co., TN.

Alice married Fred Kaul of Milwaukee, WI in 1877.
Maggie married Marion Oliver Shrimplin and lived in Leavenworth, KS.
