|Birth: ||Feb. 25, 1824|
|Death: ||Oct., 1852|
Born at what was known as Six-Mile-Prairie in Madison County which lay in the middle of the "Great American Bottom" of the Mississippi River Valeey. It boardered the east side of the Mississippi, covering nearly six hundred square miles in the 1820's.
Her father's claim, awarded for his military service, was about eleven miles southeast of the Missisippi in what would be known as Adams County. Here, they made their first home, about a year after Mary Ann's birth.
Oldest daughter of Elias Adams and his first wife, Almira Cadwell.
From age 13, Mary Ann was raised by Malinda, Elias' second wife, as if she were her own daughter. Mary Ann did not marry and died on the family farm at the mouth of Adams' Canyon, six miles east of the Great Salt Lake.
The family recorded:
"In October, when harvesting was over, the family was shocked by the sudden death of Mary Ann, the oldest daughter....a great trial...coming so unexpected....cutting down a flower from their garden in the full bloom of life. A burial service was held at the home. Friends and neighbors came by ox team for miles to console the bereaved family and pay a tribute of respect. A rough, home-made casket was prepared, and she was buried a short distance northwest of the home. The grave was in the shade of a sweeping sage, not far from the edge of the hollow formed by the creek. How lonely the resting place of Mary Ann Adams."
[Note: this area would then be south of the creek and northwest of the cabin, lying somewhere between the two locations]
Her grave has become lost in the years which passed, its' exact location unknown at this time.
