Birth: Apr. 3, 1765
Hartford County
Connecticut, USA
Death: Oct. 1, 1804
Washington County
Vermont, USA

Son of Elizabeth Fowler and Lieutenant Joel Adams.
He had two older sisters, was twin to his brother, Bildad, and had a younger brother and sister who were also twins.

At seventeen, he enlisted in the Vermont militia as a private in Captain Jonathan Warren's Company of Colonel John Sergeant's Seventh Regiment. As a Revolutionary War veteran, he served with Ethan Allen's Green Mountain Boys. Source:US Nat. Arch., Vet Rec., Job Adams and John E. Goodrich, State of Vermont, Rolls of Soldiers in the Revolutionary War-Rutland, Vt., 1904, p 807

Married (1) Sabra (Saborah) Whitmore, 1787-89, at Marlborough Township (now Marlboro), Windham, Vermont.

They had sons, Job Jr. and George at Marlboro.

In spring of 1790 they moved to Wildersburgh Township, Orange County, Vermont which later became Barre, Washington County, Vermont. When they arrived, only five other families lived at "Wildersburg" and the next January, the 7th of 1791, their sister-in-law, Lucinda, gave birth to the first child born there, James Hale.

By winter, Sabra was expecting their third child and it is not certain if she stayed in Wildersburgh or whether they traveled back to Marlboro to be attended by her mother, who was the midwife, having delivered hundreds of babies (over two thousand of record, never losing one).

This son was named Elias, and grew into the frontier's man who is featured in the publications, "Elias Adams, Pioneer" and "Elias Adams, A Pioneer Profile".

In addition to their towship lots, he and his brother-in-law farmed and used timber on their farm of about two hundred and eighty four acres. It was called "West Hill".

At the first town meeting of 11 March, 1793, town officers elected included Job as Constable.

By September it was desided to rename the town and a boxing match at the barn of Calvin Smith settled the dispute which ended in the name of "Barre" being selected!

Sabra and their three sons returned to her family in Marlboro by December of 1794. The wilderness and other problems had taken its' toll on their relationship and she filed for divorce in Randolph District Court at Chelesea, Vermont. She eventually (about 1798) married a second time to a widower from West Brattleboro, Joseph Dunklee; she is buried alongside him at Meeting House Hill Cemetery, Brattleboro, Windham, Vermont.

Job married (2) Candace Sherman, 8 January 1796; she had a two year old daughter, Polly Sherman. Job would have three more daughters with Candace; Lucy, 6 October 1798, Candace, 29 September 1800 and Sally, about 1801.

He was buried in the Sherman Family Lot at what was thereafter called "Old Barre Town Cemetery", (Orange County) but is NOW also known as Wilson Cemetery, in what is CURRENTLY Washington County.
