Ipswich - Funeral services for Francis W. Bobby, 77, of Ipswich, will be Friday, Feb. 18, 2005, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ipswich. Rev. George Dummann will lead the service. Interment will be in Ipswich City Cemetery. Visitation at Gramm-Hein Funeral Home in Ipswich.

Francis William Bobby was born June 24, 1927, to Emil and Emilia (Switzenberg) Bobby at Beebe, S.D. He attended rural schools and then served three years in the Merchant Marines and four years in the U.S. Navy from Aug. 9, 1945 to May 1952.

Francis married Geraldine "Geri" June Laughridge on Dec. 23, 1951, in Reno, Nev. Besides his honorable service record, Francis was a successful farmer and family man. Francis was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ipswich.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and was especially fond of his grandchildren. He also spent time visiting his sons and daughters while vacationing throughout the states. He loved driving the countryside to see the crops growing in the spring as well as the harvest in the fall. He loved sharing many memories with his family of all the places he had been, mostly overseas and of friends that he had made. He enjoyed playing cards with anyone who was willing to lose a dollar.

Francis died peacefully at his home with his beloved wife Geri at his side on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2005.

Survivors include his wife Geri of Ipswich; two sons, Michael (Dorreen) Bobby of Mina and Dennis Schultz of Plankinton, S.D.; eight daughters, Jackie (Tony) Oney of Anchorage, Alaska, Bobbi Jo (John) Wanek of Eagle River, Alaska, Deb (Brian) Huiner of Antioch, Calif., Tammy (Rick) Sunde of Sioux Falls, S.D., Kathy Jo (Eric) Carstenson of Lincoln, Neb., Julie (Jay) King of Rogers, Ark., Lorie (Ed) Heinz of Ipswich and Cindy (Monte) Bertsch of Mina, S.D.; one sister, Pauline Hardt of Herreid, S.D.; 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Francis in death were his parents, one daughter, Patricia, brothers, James Doud, Lavern and Emil Jr., and his sisters, Margaret Kautz and Marie Doctor.

Casketbearers and honorary casketbearers will be all of his grandchildren.
