John was in an accident on February 29, 1943 while skidding logs to the sawmill. He broke his ankle and a few days later had his leg removed to below the knee.
John F . Dixon, 81
John F. Dixon, age 81 years of Buffalo died Tuesday, March 14, 1995 at the Park View Care Center.
John was born in Rockford Township on August 23, 1913 the son of Thomas and Minnie Furtney Dixon. He was baptized at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Rockford. On June 29, 1938 John was joined in holy marriage to Dorothy L. Seeger at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pelican Lake.
Mr. Dixon was a long time farmer. He farmed with his brother Glenn Dixon in Rockford Township for several years. Then in 1944 John and Dorothy purchased their present farm in Frankfort Township. In 1949 John purchased a truck mounted backhoe and for many years put in septic tanks and hauled gravel. John also engaged in welding, custom bailing, and in the making of maple syrup. In 1978 Mr. Dixon had an auction and sold his dairy cattle. However, he continued right through last fall helping his son David on the Dixon farm.
Mr. Dixon was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Rockford where he helped construct its bell tower and the cross in its sanctuary. He was also a member of the N.F.O. and the Hanover Rod and Gun Club.
Survivors: children - John David (Jeanne) Dixon of rural Buffalo, Mary (Wayne) Hillstrom of Maple Plain, Natalie (Bill) Davis of Buffalo; grandchildren - Wendy
(Doug) Dixon-Etzel, Tracy Dixon, Heidi (Steve) Oscarson, Kelly Jo Dixon, Michael Hillstrom, Beth (Jesse) Salonek, Cami Sue Dixon, Heather Hillstrom and Nanette Davis, great grandson - Elijah; sisters and brothers - Martha Gilbert, Robert (Alma) Dixon and Glenn (Lorraine) Dixon all of Buffalo; sisters-in-law - Maxine Seeger of South St. Paul, Esther Hawkins of Belle Plain, Catherine Varner of Buffalo and Edna (Adolph) Stueven of Howard Lake.
Further survived by many other relatives and friends. John Dixon was preceded in death by his parents, by his brothers Aaron and Dewey, and by his beloved wife Dorothy Dixon on September 18, 1992.
Funeral services for John Dixon will be held on Friday, March 17, 1995 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Rockford. Reverend James G. Ellison will officiate and interment will follow at the Elmwood Cemetery.
Friends may call at Peterson Chapel in Buffalo on Thursday from 4 till 9 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held at the Chapel in Buffalo on Thursday evening at 8 p.m.
Mr. Tim Duerr will be the service's soloist and sing "How Great Thou Art." Tim Duerr and Jeanne Dixon will sing "Amazing Grace" as a duet. The congregation will sing "The Old Rugged Cross."
Casket bearers will be; Gary Conzet, Bob Gilbert, Norman Varner, Walter Dixon, John and Teddy Baruska.
