Dear Mr. Maddock:
It is with peculiar sadness and sense of great loss, that I
learned this morning that Mrs. Henry Cowley had gone to her
Great Reward. Thinking you would be asked to officiate at the funeral services, and knowing you had not been here long enough to have much acquaintance, I venture to write you just a few lines of appreciation of the very unique Christian living Mrs. Cowley exemplified.
Mrs. Cowley was a peculiarly sympathetic motherly woman,
constantly giving of herself and her services to the
unfortunate, whether they were her familyl, her neighbors, or 'the Stranger within her gates.' She welcomed them there. She was not at all times physically able to leave her home, yet she constantly gathered about her the 'little ones' whom Christ called 'his own,' and ministered to and for them. Much of the time for the last 18 months, she has mothered in her own home, in cooperation with the local Red Cross unfortunate persons,
when there was scarcely another home open to them. For this
unique service she will be greatly missed, but we can almost hear the Lors Jesus say to her, 'inasmuch as ye did it unto Enter into the joy of thy Lord.'
If you think this feeble attempt at an appreication, would be any consolation to Mr. Cowley and her son and daughter, you may pass it to them.
