"The land described in the Will (of John Barnett, died 1750) is all in what is now Madison Co. (i.e. land near Lost Mountain, land on Smith's, or Beautiful Run.) The homeplace of the Barnetts was on the Orange Co. side of the Rapidan, as John is named as a resident of St Thomas' Parish in earlier deeds, and the Will is probated in Orange even though the bulk of the land was in the area which was Culpeper after 1749 (Madison Co., after 1793)"
