Betty Rowe Atterberry, 72, of Savannah, died Saturday, Jan 15, 2005 at her nieces home in Hilton Head, S.C. She was born in Savannah, GA and was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Cass Atterberry, Jr., and her parents, Gary Thomas and Alma Sellers Rowe; a sister, Ethelyn Elise Preston and a brother, Gary Thomas Rowe, Jr.
She was retired from Coastal Paper Company, having worked for them for many years. She was a member of American Legion Post # 135, Ladies Auxiliary, and the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post # 660. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Garden City, Ga., a member of the Libby Tyner Sunday School Class, a former member of the Church Training Department, and loved to serve on the Kitchen Committee of the Church. Betty was loved by all, and was devoted to her family and her church family.
She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Barbara Preston Elkins, a number of great nieces and great nephews, and a num ber of great great nieces and great great nephews.
Visitation: 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home - Hodgson Memorial Chapel. Funeral Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Garden City, Ga., with Rev. Ken Sharpe, officiating. Interment will follow in Bonaventure Cemetery. Mrs. Atterberry will be taken to the church at 9 a.m. Tuesday to lie in state.
