From his Civil War index card in PA State Archives Enrolled 10 Aug 1862 at Curllsville (age 25). Mustered in 2 Sept 1862 at Pittsburgh. Wounded in action 1 Apr 1865. Discharged at Balt., MD Occup: wagon maker He had brown hair, grey eyes.
1862 (August 10): Moses enlisted in Curllsville, Clarion County, PA for the Civil War Co. H. Reg. PA Vol Inf. He is described in his disability discharge certificate and pension records as being 5'9", having a dark complexion, grey eyes and brown hair. He enlisted a wagon maker.
1865 (April 1): Moses was wounded at the Battle of Five Forks in VA. when a musket or minnie (gunshot) fell through the side and penetrated his lung. Some pension records state he had pleuritic adhesions, mashing his lungs. He was treated in Welch Hospital for one week, a week in Sutherland Station Hospital, one week in Petersburg Hospital, then to (Jarvis) City Point Hospital where M. D. Anderson was discharged at Baltimore, MD on May 27, 1865 due to his disability. He spent the next 23 years partially disabled from his injuries and making several claims for disability pension and increases.
