The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Bennett, Sr. are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 89 Hassell St. The Rite of Committal will be at St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Friends may call at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy,. this Monday evening between 6:00 And 8:00 PM. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
Charles E. Bennett was born in Charleston, SC on April 13, 1925, the son of Thomas William and Mary Conroy Bennett. He graduated from Porter Military Academy and honorably served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army on Okinawa. He was a Charter Member of the Hobcaw Yacht Club and the Mount Pleasant Cotillion. Mr. Bennett was a Past President of the Quis Qui Club, a member of the Mortgage Banker's Association, the Holy Name Society of St. Mary's Church and a Life Member of the Hibernian Society. He is survived by his wife, Mary Willis Bennett; his children, Charles E. Bennett, Jr. and his wife, Fran, Linda Bennett Jones and her husband, Robert, Louise Bennett Doyle, Catherine Bennett Elrod and William Anthony Bennett and his wife, Denise; his fourteen grandchildren, his seventeen great grandchildren, as well as his brother, John C. Bennett.
