Although there is a dual marker for Noah Briles, Union Civil War veteran. Private, Company E, 27th Missouri Mounted Infantry. His obituary states he was buried at the Smith Cemetery.
23 Apr 2015 - According to the, Oregon Burial Site Guide, compiled by Dean H. Byrd, Co-Compiled by Stanley R. Clarke and Janice M. Healy, Smith, Smith-Weyerhaeuser Cemetery is a separate cemetery than Mt. Vernon. It was suggested to me that Mt. Vernon was possibly called Smith Cemetery at one time. According to the above mention book the aka's for Mt. Vernon are: Landax, Middle Fork, New Middle Fork and Thurston.
I still stand by the obituary published at the time of death for the correct burial location for Noah Briles and his daughter Margaret Briles Gum/Gumm.
