Ivan Leonard Arneson
CANBY--Ivan Leonard Arneson of Canby died April 18, 2005. He was 95.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at the Oregon City Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Leroy Poews officiating.
Burial will be at Zion Memorial Cemetery in Canby.
He was born Feb. 7, 1910, in Westbrook, Minn., to parents Alfred and Emma Arneson.
The family moved to Canby in 1913 and he attended local schools, graduating from Canby High.
Ivan married Robertha Burrell in June 1938.
He received his teaching certificate from Oregon Normal School in Monmouth and taught seventh-grade students for nine years in the Canby area.
Ivan started Arneson Nursery in 1937, specializing in fruit trees, fruit tree rootstock and the hybridization of deciduous azaleas, having 20 of their finest hybrids named and registered with the Royal Horticultural Society in England.
He was inducted into the Nurserymen's Hall of Fame in 1995.
He was a member of the Oregon Association of Nurserymen and the Oregon City Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by wife Robertha Arneson of Canby; daughter Ellen Hatheway of Canby; son Glen Arneson of Canby; sisters Bernice Polchow of Centralia, Wash., and Marie Arneson of Portland; six grand-children; and seven great-grand-children.
Canby Funeral Chapel is in care of arrangements.
