He was the third son born to John and Geneva-Hardin Crenshaw. In 1943, while attending Prairie View A&M College, he was called to military service. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. During his time in service to his country, he was promoted to Platoon Sergeant. In 1946, he was honorably discharged. Afterwards, he attended Samuel Huston College in Austin, Texas and earned a B.S. degree, Suma Cum Laude, in 1949. He continued postgraduate studies at Texas Southern University, School of Business. On June 19, 1948, he wed Anne E. Charleston. In 1952, he began a civil service career at Kelly Air Force Base Logistics Command as a supply clerk typist, and later advanced to senior management positions by merit promotions. He ultimately was elevated to the position of Computer System Lead Analyst, GS-13, a position he held until his retirement in 1983. Mr. Crenshaw was a senior member of the team that automated logistics procedures widely in use today throughout the U.S. Air Force. He was also a distinguished instructor at St. Phillips College from 1952-1985 in business management and was a dedicated member of the Coliseum Park Baptist Church for over 45 years, and was an ordained Deacon of the church and a member of the Board of Ushers .
