George Andrus Baker was the son of George Washington Baker and Sally H. (Woodruff) Baker.

George was a Union soldier; he enlisted 23 Sep 1861, at Crown Point N.Y, at 19 yrs of age. He was in Co. H., N.Y. 5th Calvary. He was promoted to full Corporal on 01 July 1865, and mustered out on 19 July 1865 at Winchester, VA.
