Shirley was raised in Indiana and Illinois, in the Chicago area. She was the daughter of famed musician and movie star, Charles O. "Gabe" Ward, of Hoosier Hot Shots fame and Marguerite Deter. The family moved out west during the Hollywood Western Movies heydays of the late 1940's. There she met her husband of 58 years, John Warner Adams, Jr. of Prophetstown, Illinois. They were married on May 21, 1949.
Shirley and John raised three sons, Michael Scott, John Warner III and Charles Ward Adams. Shirley worked, caring for others, at Villa Fontana Convalescent Hospital in San Jose for many years before retiring to Fresno.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother and father and one of her brothers, John Ward. She is survived by her husband, John W. Adams, Jr.; brothers, Tim Ward and Ned Ward; sons, Michael Scott Adams, John Warner Adams III and Charles Ward Adams; seven grand-children, Mercedes Adams, Michael Scott Adams, Jr., Matthew Scott Adams, Gabe Warner Adams, Porsche Elizabeth Marguer-ite Adams, Nova Delight Adams and Sarah Sher-man; and her four great-grandchildren of whom she was especially proud, Alex and Vicki Gee, and Logan and Lucas Adams.
