Katherine Schilche aka Schiltze--my husband's gg-grandmother--was born in Bavaria, Germany in December 1826.
On July 6, 1849, Katherine married Valentine Mode (1829-1870), at the age of 22, in Big Rock, Pulaski, Arkansas. In the 1880 census Katherine indicated that both she and her parents were born in Prussia. It is currently unknown when she came to America.
Katherine and Valentine had seven children:
(1) George Peter Mode (1850-1942);
(2) Valentine Mode (1853-1891);
(3) Elizabeth Mode Bick (1858-1924);
(4) Catherine Mode (1860-1931);
(5) Dennine "Dennie" Mode Singleton (1861-1923) (my husband's g-grandmother);
(6) Peter Mode (1864-1960); and
(7) Anna Mary Mode Ehrengardt (1867-1968).
Katherine died at the age of 73 on 9 March 1900 in Okawville. We would love to communicate with any of the descendants of this family.
