Janice Torre Perky, a New Orleans native who was an ASCAP lyricist and script writer, died Feb. 21 at New York Hospital after a long illness. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and Newcomb College in New Orleans and Yale Drama School. Her songs were performed by entertainers including Judy Garland, Elvis Presley, Anita Bryant, Jane Powell, Lauritz Melchior and Marie Osmond. She wrote several movie scores including "Tom Thumb," "Girls, Girls, Girls," "Luxury Liner," "In the Good Old Summer Time" and "Big City." She collaborated with composer Fred Spielman on songs, including "Paper Roses", and the television musical "The Stingiest Man in Town" (1956). Survivors included her husband, a daughter, a son, a brother, and a granddaughter. Funeral services were held at Metairie Cemetery.
