Born 1829-1830, OH, to Joshua (s/o Amos & Elizabeth Barre Pennington 1, Daniel & Martha Ball Pennington 2, Daniel & Elizabeth Michener Pennington 3, and on back).
Joshua bn abt 1799 PA & Mary (Higgins) Pennington bn about 1803- 1805 KY. They were married 11 Nov 1824 Belmont Co Oh. On 1850 census in Sand Creek twp, Decatur, Indiana, I find Joshua & Mary with John with brothers Joel married Lydia Hart, (daughter of Aaron & Isabella Pye Hart), Lewis who may have married Ann Barkley, and sisters Angelina who married Mathew Hall Walker & Mary who married William H Johnson.
John married Anna Marie (Springer) Ballinger 11/21/1854 in Decatur, IN. This was her 2nd marriage. She already had 2 very young children, with first husband John B Ballinger son of Elizabeth Grizzell & .......Ballinger. Ballinger. John B died shortly after son, John Zebulon Ballinger was born. They daughter Calista (per census) which I think was really Carissa or Clarissa after her dads sister. Anna's daughter goes by "Carrie" Ballinger, she married a Simms. her dad died shortly after her brother, John Zebulon Ballinger was born. John Z Ballinger married Anna Hart who died short time after marriage, then he married Emma Clewell.
John Pennington and Anna now raising her 2, had 5 more boys. Harry Springer 1856, H Leslie 1857, Edwin 1867, Frank 1858, Lewis M 1863. In 1850, John was in Decatur with parents , Sand creek twp, indiana, In 1860 same place with wife, but according to 1870 census they now lived in Fountain Green twp, Hancock Co, IL. with all the kids. But on 1880 census for same place in county Anna is now a widow. I have not been able to locate his death date or burial place in that county, but there are two cemeteries in the area which were not kept up over the years, along with another that was destroyed by an arrogant, disrespectful farmer many years later. Some of Johns siblings, step kids, kids, and all his grandkids all worked with the railroad. His family now stretches almost from coast to coast. Hopefully someday I will know when he died and where. But for now, he died after the 1870 census and before the 1880 census. This is a memorial for any others who may be looking for him too. He may gone but is not forgotten. Thank goodness for his mother in law, Eliza Lincoln Springer for having kept detailed records in her bible, and one of her sons Missouri descendants, my moms neighbor, Mrs Sublette who gave me so many connections to my relatives and started me on this adventure.
