Private Harold N. Kitchen was a soldier in Company E, 18th Infantry Regiment of the 1st Infantry Division. He was killed north of the Ponte Olivo airfield in Sicily. The date of his death is not certain, date is given as 3 September 1943. This is also the date of burial in the temporary American GELA Cemetery. Pvt Kitchen was buried in grave H-86-1029. After the war his remains were repatriated and buried in the Hancock Cemetery in Hancock, Wisconsin.
Over 1,200 men and women were buried in the GELA Cemetery between July 1943 and 1947.
