Staff Sergeant Paul M. Roepke was a paratrooper in Company F 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. He was on board of a C-47 transportplane, that was shot down by friendly fire on 11 July 1943. Staff Sergeant Roepke's body was found floating in the Gela Bay. He was buried in the temporary American GELA Cemetery on 5 August 1943. After the war his remains were reburied in the Sicily Rome Cemetery (south of Rome, Italy) in grave F-4-8
