World War II vet; former Clifton Heights fire chief.
John J. Gorman, 90, of Clifton Heights, longtime borough fire chief and a veteran of World War II, died Feb. 6 at home.
Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Gorman was a 1936 graduate of West Catholic Boys High School and served in the Army during World War II. He worked for U.S. Borax & Chemical Co. of Los Angeles, retiring as a regional sales manager.
Mr. Gorman was chief of the Clifton Heights Fire Co. from 1949-1979 and served as the borough fire marshal and 7th District fire marshal for many years.
He was active with Men of Malvern, six-three group, for 50 years. He was devoted to his family and friends.
Mr. Gorman was the son of the late John J. and Sarah Duffy Gorman.
Survived by his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Gorman; son, John J. Gorman of the Drexel Hill section of Upper Darby; daughter, Mary C. "Missy" Piasecki of Oxford; four grandchildren.
