Charles Henry Schott

Charles Henry Schott, 80, passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2013 in Sandy,Utah. He was born January 20, 1933 in Royal Oak, Michigan to Meade Clarence and Ruth Mable Pauline Atwood Schott. Charlie was raised by his father and stepmother Mary Lucile Washburn Schott in Royal Oak and on his grandparent's farm in Mayville, Michigan.

Charlie joined the US Navy after high school and served for four years. During his time in the Pacific, Charlie met the LDS missionaries, and eventually joined the church in June
1956 in Tokyo, Japan. After his service in the Navy, Charlie went to Provo, Utah, to attend BYU. There he met his eternal sweetheart. He married Karen M. Thaxton on Sept. 9, 1957 in the Mesa Arizona LDS Temple.

Charlie was an active member of the LDS Church throughout his life and served in many capacities. He worked with the young men in Boy Scouts for more than 30 years and
enjoyed it the most. He loved the out of doors and spent much of his vacation time throughout the years in the mountains with his family and the Scouts. Charlie taught
himself and countless others the joy of fly fishing. He mentored many young men through learning to tie flies along with the art of fly fishing.

Charlie worked for Otis Elevator company for 36 years, first as an elevator mechanic and later as a district supervisor. His profession led him to work in several western states over the course of his employment there.
In retirement Charlie cared for his mother-in-law the last year of her life. Charlie enjoyed serving a mission at the Family History Library with his wife from 2002 -2009.

Charlie is survived by his four children: Steven (Debbie), Beckey (Todd) Smith, David (Michelle), and Kristina (Hector) Camacho; 11 grandchildren; and four siblings: Fred
(Gloria), Jeanne (Rich) Deneweth), David (Stella), and Virginia Burchell. He is preceded in death by his wife Karen, his parents, and his brother, Meade Clarence Schott, Jr.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug.16 at 11 a.m. at the Sandy Hillcrest 4th Ward, 8735 So. Harvard Park Dr. in Sandy, where there will be a viewing from 10-10:45 a.m.
Interment, Sandy City Cemetery.
