Jean D'Angola Augustine, a lifelong resident of Scranton, passed away Tuesday February 19, 2013. On August 26, 1917, Jean was born to Nunzio and Carmella Rogato D'Angola. Jean embraced life's ups and downs with endless faith and enthusiasm. As a young woman, Jean displayed her excellent sales ability at Scranton's premier milinary salons. Her love of Hats never ceased. While working, Jean enjoyed singing second soprano with the original Catholic Choral Society. She was also an avid tennis player. Her love of tennis, opera, the classics and music of anykind led her to meet the love of her life, Nicholas A. Augustine.
After being swept off her feet, she and Nick were married on September 14, 1940. Jean and Nick sang and danced their way through life until Nick was called to heaven in 1999. She and Nick were charter members of Elmhurst Country Club and the Basilica Of St. Ann. Jean treasured all living things flora and fauna especially the wild birds and bunnies that visited her yard for treats. She also had an endless passion for poker and casino visits.
Jean adored her children, daughter Camille Evers, with whom she resided and was her caregiver until her death, her daughter Diane Jablonski and husband Richard, her grandson Richard and wife Michelle and greatgrandson Rick James Jablonski, all of Sun City West, Arizona. Beyond her immediate family, Jean held her nieces, nephews, greatnieces, greatnephews, cousins, friends and neighbors, too numerous to mention, so very close to her heart. Jean was also preceeded in death by a brother Vincent D'Angola, and two sisters Josephine Maroon and Concetta Longo.
The family sends a special thank you to the staff of VNA Hospice for their tireless compassion and genuine concern for her dignity. The funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10 AM in The Basilica Of St. Ann to be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Jones, CP, assistant pastor. Interment Cathedral Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Basilica Of St. Ann, 1250 St. Ann's St. Scranton, 18504 or to VNA Hospice, 301 Delaware St., Olyphant, 18447. Arrangement by August J. Haas Funeral Home, 202 Pittston Ave., Scranton, 18505.
