Chaney Victim of Hit and Run Driver Saturday - Dies in Epworth Hospital Sunday
Chaney, who until a few years ago lived in Plymouth, was struck by a hit-and-run driver late Saturday on the 2,000 block on Western avenue. He was on foot crossing the street. The driver of the death car fled from the scene of the accident. Witnesses who saw the accident did not obtain a description of the car nor the license number.
Chaney was taken to the Epworth hospital The only identification on his body was a hunting license bearing the name E. J. Mahoney, 36, Frankford, Ind., and it was several hours before his identity was learned. He was unconscious when taken to the hospital and died of a skull fracture.
Mr. Chaney moved to South Bend from Plymouth several years ago. He was born in Plymouth Jan. 29, 1887 and was 48 years old. He is survived by his wife, Maymie and two daughters, Mrs. Helen Reber and Mrs. Elmer Cote of South Bend; two brothers, Tom and Frank Chaney of Plymouth, a sister, Mrs. J. Q. Kleckner of Plymouth. Mrs. Rebecca Chaney of Plymouth, is his mother.
The body was brought to the Danielson Funeral Home in Plymouth where funeral servcies will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Rev. C. A. Sickafoose will have charge of the services.
