She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She worked as a primary school teacher and librarian in Dorchester and Oconee Counties. She was the first certified primary school librarian in the Walhalla School District and worked for over 20 years as librarian at South Pine Elementary School, touching the lives of thousands.
Mrs. Lyle is survived by her sons, John David Lyle, Jr. (wife Judy) and Luther Lafayette Lyle (wife Marcia) of Walhalla; four grandchildren, John "Jay" D. Lyle, III of Norfolk, VA, Stuart Lyle and Marjorie Conaway (husband Paul) of Walhalla, Meredith Lyle of Charleston; and one great grandchild, Charlotte Conaway of Walhalla. She was predeceased by her brother, Martin Puckhaber, Jr., and is survived by sisters Ursula Baker of Hanahan, SC and Freddie Goldberg of Plano, TX.
A graveside service for immediate family was held on Aug 1st at St. Johns. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to Collins Children's Home (Seneca), the Museum of the Cherokee in South Carolina (Walhalla), or the Clemson Corps Scholarship Fund.
