Son of William Arthur and Lela Smith Winkle. Paul married Madge Beth West on March 7, 1943.


ATLANTA - Two Georgians, Staff Sergeants, Arthur P. Wikle of Clarkesville and Andrew J. Alexander of Atlanta, were among 19 officers and enlisted men were killed when two four-engined bombers crashed Tuesday between Ruidoso and Capitan, New Mexico, the air base at Alamogordo, NM, announced yesterday.


The public relations office at Alamogordo also said that the crash, which occurred on a routine training flight, would be investigated by a board of army officers.


Sergeant Wikle is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Wikle of Clarkesville and was an aerial engineer. He entered the service in May 1942, and was graduated from the bombing and gunnery school at Wendover Field, Utah. Before entering the service he was a student at Clemson College.
