He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Lee McPhail.
He was a graduate of Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas, member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, and was married to Martha Ann Radenz. They had two children, Marilyn and Robert Mark.
